At 23 years old, Lila Doris Fúnez Rodríguez represents a new generation of Honduran coffee producers. Following the lead of her brother Ariel, she learned that coffee is more than a career; it is a way of life. Together with her parents and siblings, she co-founded Coffee Fúnez, a family association dedicated to producing exceptional coffees while protecting the environment.
Located in San Sebastián, Comayagua, at 2,100 meters above sea level, Finca Los Pinos is her pride and joy that spans one hectare of coffee trees that benefit from the unique microclimates of the highlands. Lila cultivates Parainema, Pacamara, Lempira, and Typica under the shade of native trees, maintaining biodiversity and healthy soils. She uses organic fertilizers made from composted coffee pulp and animal by-products and carefully manages drying and processing, achieving cup scores between 86 and 88 points across washed, honey, natural, and anaerobic natural lots.
In 2025, Lila deepened her knowledge of processing methods, focusing on anaerobic naturals and implementing soil analysis and targeted fertilization to enhance both quality and sustainability. She also recently completed coffee cupping training to strengthen her quality control skills and raise the standard of all the coffees her family produces.
Although her production remains small for now, Lila seeks to build direct relationships with buyers who value her dedication and craftsmanship. Every cup from Finca Los Pinos reflects her family’s unity, effort, and love for coffee.
