From the forests of Sukke Chiga in Ethiopia’s Guji zone, the Udesa Fora washing station produces coffees that exemplify clarity, structure, and place. Managed by Mekonnen Beriso and supported by 300–400 smallholder farmers cultivating heirloom varieties 74112 and 74158 at elevations up to 2,100 meters, this lot reflects the ancient terroir and thoughtful collaboration at origin. The name “Udesa Fora,” meaning “resting under a tree,” speaks to the shade-grown landscape that shapes its character. The unique microclimate of this region consists of cool nights and moderate sun intensity, allowing the cherries to slowly develop complex sugars that contribute to the inherent quality of this coffee.
Carefully selected cherries undergo a 72-hour fermentation before being fully washed and dried on raised beds, resulting in a cup that is clean, crisp, and beautifully defined. In the cup, expect a lively yet refined profile with classic tea-like flavors, stone fruit sweetness, and delicate florality. Light-bodied with ample sweetness and fresh citrus acidity on the finish, this is a vibrant expression of Guji coffee and one of our favorite cup profiles.
